Oral history interview with Israel D. Newmark and Stanley L. Harrison, 1980. 1980

Newmark and Harrison discuss some of their experiences as students at the Washington University School of Medicine and graduating at the beginning of the Depression. Both discuss aspects of their internships and residencies, including the low pay that they received. Changes in medical training, continuing medical education, pediatrics and the treatment of children, and homeopathic practitioners are discussed. Newmark and Harrison also recall some of their memorable professors, such as W. McKim Marriott.

W. McKim Marriott received his medical degree from Cornell University in 1910. He joined the faculty and administration of Washington University School of Medicine in 1910, serving as: instructor in biochemistry (1910-1914), professor of pediatrics and pediatrician in chief, clinics (1917-), and dean of the medical school (1923-1936). He was physician in chief, St. Louis Children's Hospital (1917-). Dr. Marriott's research interest was pediatrics and biochemistry. He died in 1936. --Amer. Men &a...
